Video Games and the Internet - Positive Factors

Can video games be beneficial for your health?

To date, research into video games has mostly focused on negative factors related to problematic playing. This includes, for example, addictive behaviour, negative consequences (psychological, social and physical) and games with a violent content. However, video games are sometimes used for medical purposes (cf « the benefits of video games »). Research into the health benefits of playing video games is scarce. However, it is widely accepted that moderate playing can be beneficial to one`s health. Moreover, negative consequences are more likely to arise from frequent play of a significant duration. This type of playing interferes with the time available for activities of daily living.
